The two-story, 97,400-square-foot Placer County Community Development Resource Center houses a variety of County departments. The design of the building focuses on functionality for the users and the flexibility of the space for the lifetime of the building. Programming for the needs of employees from several agencies with a wide variety of job duties was a major component of our planning process. Sustainable design considerations were a major determinant in the design of this facility. The implementation of energy conserving features in all facets of the building’s construction and operation resulted in a building that exceeds California’s Title 24 Energy Efficiency Standards by 44%. Building orientation and configuration respond to solar impact while also preserving existing mature trees on the site.
