The San Juan High School masterplan incorporates the modernization of the existing comprehensive high school curriculum into an academy for career technical education including the pathways of Culinary Arts, Automotive Tech, Construction Tech, Engineering Tech, and Media Broadcast/ Performing Arts. This includes the development of a brand new 10,000 SF Culinary Arts building, complete with a state-of-the-art culinary kitchen, bakery, lecture hall and a community restaurant, the complete modernization of the Automotive Shops buildings and existing metal and wood shops into the Auto, Construction and Engineering Technology Wing (16,000 SF), and the renovation of the school’s existing Performing Arts Theatre (10,500 SF) and music wing to a new Media/ Broadcast Studio for student use (6,500 SF). Other projects including a new Campus Front Door building (5,000 SF) and extensive streetscape improvements to bring back the school’s rich historical vocabulary, while improving the aesthetic to encourage new enrollment in the campus. Future phases of the master plan include the development of Student Union and formal student quads, focused on student gathering and interaction. The masterplan, in all phases, is expected to be complete by August 2013, the school’s centennial celebration.
